Missy Konieczny
6'2 Center
Junior Senior
Missy was named the most improved
player on the Badgers after the 1997-98 season and probably would have repeated
had the award been given after the 98 season. She has improved from an unsure freshman to
a scrappy post player, who made a significant contribution off the bench.
She has about a ten foot long first step and uses it to go hard to the
basket. When she gets near the hoop, she holds the ball with both
hands and goes strong. That lead to a 75% field goal percentage this
year. She combined that with strong offensive rebounding to move
up in the rotation. Missy has good hands and catches the ball well.
She will likely be the first post player off the bench in 1999.
But, for all her contributions on the offensive end, she remains a defensive
liability. Her lack of upper body strength allows opponents to push
her out of position and her lack of footspeed leads to her getting beat
by average post players. Missy is in line for significant minutes
in her senior year, but she must get better defensively. She could
also use some work on her free throws.
