Tamara
Moore
5'11 small forward, shooting guard, point guard
Freshman Sophomore
The highest rated and the most skilled of the 1998 freshman, Moore was asked to learn two new positions in addition to her familiar small forward spot. Over the course of the year, she rotated between small forward, shooting guard and point guard, although she got most of her minutes at small forward after Tanisha Boston was injured. The jumping around definitely made it harder for her to make the transition from high school to college ball. Moore is an emotional player and she struggled early to maintain her composure when she made mistakes. As the season wore on, and as she got more minutes at her familiar position, she settled down emotionally and stopped trying to make up for every mistake she made. Tamara is an intense, emotional player, but she needs to stay in control. The team can feed off of her emotion. Her intensity makes her an exceptional defensive player. By the end of the season, she had assumed the role of defensive stopper and had limited the effectiveness of such players as Maxann Reese and Stacey Thomas. Offensively, she's a good passer and penetrator. Her jump shot got better as the season went on. She has solid basketball instincts and knows what should be happening on the court. Tamara is an excellent free throw shooter. Her biggest need is to continue to mature emotionally. She still tends to force the situation. Moore has to turn the ball over less. She can be casual when dribbling and she sometimes forces passes. She tied with Dee Dee Pate for the team lead in assists, but had significantly more turnovers than anyone on the team. Tamara closed the season strong, being named to the WNIT all-tournament team. Tamara set freshman records for steals and free throw percentage.
