Head Coach: Sue Guevara
After serving a lengthy apprenticeship
under MSU coach Karen Langeland, Guevara was named interim coach
at Michigan in 1996. She made an immediate impact on the once moribund
program and had the interim removed from her name before the end of her
first season. Under her, the Wolverines have posted winning records
in all three years she's been the boss. Guevara's teams are athletic,
emotional and well-coached. They play decent defense but have struggled
offensively. Her teams have yet to attain consistency and they've
had bad losses mixed in with good wins. This past season, Michigan
bucked the trend and played worse at home than on the road. The talent
level of the team has increased and they show promise of being a consistent
contender for an upper division finish and an NCAA bid.
