Head Coach:  Rene Portland

If you like your coaches warm and fuzzy, you won't like Rene.  But if you like your coaches to win, this is the person for you.  Portland is simply the league's best x's and o's coach.  She has essentially dominated the league since Penn State joined and has the best conference winning percentage, 72.4, of any active coach.  She routinely employs a three guard offense that is aggressive defensively and efficient offensively.  Her teams do not beat themselves.  But we are entering a warm and fuzzy age.  Portland has struggled to recruit in recent years and will go into the 99 season with only 10 scholarship players.  She will get the most out of her players and make them better as a whole than they are individually.  Her team in 1999 will be built around 2 seniors.  Her teams always are.  But she will have to improve her recruiting soon if her program is not going to slip.  They will never be average or bad, but they are at risk of not quite keeping up to the standards Portland has set in the past.
